OVP Libreng Sakay serves over 1 million passengers in 2025, marks 3 million since launch
To lessen the everyday hardship of commuting, the Office of the Vice President's (OVP) Libreng Sakay Program offers free rides to Filipinos who depend on public transit currently in Metro Manila, Naic-Cavite, Cebu, Bacolod, Tacloban, and Davao.
The Libreng Sakay Program enhances current public transportation services by providing safe, dependable, and cost-free transportation through the deployment of dedicated OVP buses, especially in areas and times when commuter demand is high.
This initiative, which collaborates closely with the Department of Transportation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and private sector partners, has already helped millions of Filipino commuters across the country. In 2025 alone, a significant milestone in the OVP continuous public transportation aid program was reached when 1,036,927 people were served through its Libreng Sakay Program. On January 27, 2025, the program reached its 2,000,000th passenger since its launch, marking a noteworthy milestone. Jacob, a 22-year-old commuter who got on an OVP bus on the Quiapo-Commonwealth Avenue route, was the symbolic passenger. On January 21, 2026, the program welcomed its three-millionth passenger. Snow Verzosa, a Cebu-based BPO employee, rides the Libreng Sakay bus at Cebu City's Capitol. In the face of natural disasters, increased fuel prices, and transportation interruptions, the program also helped commuters by offering free transportation. Through this, the OVP shows its dedication to growing and maintaining the program to reach even more communities in the upcoming years as transportation issues persist.
